Cardiff born left half Charlie Pinch began his football career with hometown Southern League club Cardiff City in 1910, and with the arrival of new manager Fred Stewart he left The Bluebirds to join Lancashire League club Southport Central. After a season at Haig Avenue he signed for First Division club Preston North End, making his Football League debut at Sunderland in January 1914, playing twice more before the end of the season as Preston suffered relegation.
Pinch moved to Midland League club Scunthorpe & Lindsey United in the summer of 1914, but his career was then interrupted by the onset of the First World War which caused the suspension of peacetime football. After the War he joined Southern League club Swansea Town in 1919 but had retired by the time Swansea became a Football League club in 1920.
