Rishton, Lancashire born goalkeeper Peter Platt began his career with Great Harwood in 1899, joining Oswaldtwistle Rovers in the Lancashire Combination in 1900. He was on the books at Blackburn Rovers during 1900-01, for whom he made hisFootball League debut and only appearance for Rovers at West Bromwich Albion in March 1901. In June 1902 Liverpool had to agree terms for his signature with Blackburn Rovers for Platt even though he was then once again playing for Oswaldtwistle Rovers. Since Blackburn still held his League registration when Platt wanted a return to the League interested parties had to settle a contract with his former club.
Twenty-year-old Platt took over from Bill Perkins in the Liverpool goal in 1902-03, making 22 appearances over the season. He started the 1903-04 season as first choice but was replaced by Charles Cotton after 18 matches. Platt won his place back for the last three fixtures of that campaign but never represented the club again, losing his place to the legendary Ned Doig, joining Southern League Luton Town in the summer of 1904 after a total of 45 appearances for The Reds. He had a successful career for The Hatters making 139 appearances for them over six seasons before joining non league Nuneaton Town in 1910, his last recorded club before his retirement.
