Description

Caersws, Montgomeryshire born outside left Lew Price began his football career with Barmouth and played for Hampstead Town in 1914 prior to the First World War, and after the War he joined Midland League club Mansfield Town in the 1920 close season, scoring once in 5 appearances for The Stags before being signed by Aston Villa in March 1921. He made his Football League debut at Middlesbrough the same month, and played in 8 matches before the season end, six of which were won. However he only played twice more during Villa’s 1921-22 campaign before a transfer to Notts County in the 1922 close season.

He was a regular as Notts County won the Second Division Championship in his first season at Meadow Lane, but after an excellent start to their top flight campaign he was injured in September 1923 and missed three months, regaining his place in December and helping The Magpies to a very respectable tenth place finish. But he wasn’t in the team at the start of the next season and played only once as Notts suffered relegation, making only 10 appearances over the following two seasons in the Second Division.

After 7 goals in 70 appearances for Notts County, Price joined Third Division (South) club Queen’s Park Rangers in the summer of 1928, but played in only 3 matches at the start of their 1928-29 campaign before a transfer to Midland League club Grantham, where he played until joining Basford United in 1934, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
