Cape Town, South Africa born outside left Bob Priday begaa his football career with Cape Town City before he signed for Liverpool in November 1945. His signing took place on the liner Capetown Castle at Southampton Docks after its arrival from Cape Town. Priday made his debut in an FA Cup tie at Chester in January 1946 as the FA Cup resumed immediately following the end of the Second World War, his Football League debut coming at Sheffield United that August when peacetime League football resumed, by when he had also scored 4 goals in 16 wartime matches for The Reds. Although not a regular in The Reds’ first eleven, he scored twice in 9 matches as Liverpool won the League Championship in his debut season at Anfield, albeit not quite enough to qualify him for a League Championship medal.
Priday played half of Liverpool’s matches the next season but only featured in 4 matches in 1948-49 before a transfer to Second Division club Blackburn Rovers in March 1949 after 7 goals in 40 matches f9r The Reds. At Rovers he suffered a cartilage injury in an FA Cup tie against Liverpool in January 1950 but returned at the start of the next season to play through to December when he lost his place after 11 goals in 45 matches for Rovers. After spells at non league clubs Clitheroe in 1951 and Northwich Victoria in 1952, he returned to Football League action in December 1952 when he signed for Accrington Stanley, playing 5 matches for Stanley before the end of the season. He joined Rochdale in August 1953, scoring on his debut at Tranmere Rovers that August, playing 4 more matches for Dale during September before finishing his football career.
