Usworth Colliery, County Durham born inside forward Jimmy Proudfoot began his football career with Fatfield Juniors in 1923 and played junior football for Usworth Juniors in 1924, Washington Colliery in 1925 and Usworth Colliery in 1926 before signing for Second Division Barnsley in 1927, for whom he made his Football League debut at Blackpool that December in a 3-1 victory. He was a first team regular during his five seasons at Oakwell, scoring 29 goals in 147 appearances, but when they were relegated at the end of the 1931-32 season he was released and joined Notts County.
He stayed at Meadow Lane for only a single season making 10 appearances before joining Southend United in the summer of 1933, and had a spell on loan at non league Yeovil & Petters United the same autumn, but after a single goal in 11 appearances for The Shrimpers he joined Southport in the 1934 close season, where he spent two seasons as a first team regular, scoring twice in 75 appearances for the Haig Avenue outfit. He then returned to the north east to join non league Ashington in 1936 and saw out his career joining Murton Colliery Welfare in 1936 and Blue Bus Company in 1937.
NB in the photograph he is almost certainly wearing a Barnsley shirt.
