Description

Birmingham born inside right Bill Prouse had a trial with Plymouth Argyle after the end of the First World War before joining Redditch Town in 1920, playing for Dogpool in 1922 before signing for Third Division (North) Rochdale in November 1922, for whom he made his Football League a month later against Southport at Spotland in a fixture 2 days before Christmas that Rochdale won 3-2, with Prouse grabbing a brace. Although he only scored twice more that season, in 1923-24 his 14 League goals saw him share Rochdale’s leading goalscorer table with Bert Whitehurst, on the strength of which he was sold to Second Division Fulham in the summer of 1924 after 18 goals in 52 appearances for ‘Dale.

He scored 16 goals in his first season for The Cottagers, and was by far and away their leading goalscorer, but after 3 seasons he left Craven Cottage to return to the Midlands, joining non league Wellington Town in the summer of 1927, having scored 32 goals in 83 appearances for Fulham. He subsequently joined Cradley Heath in 1928, and played for both Wellington St George’s and Bilston United in 1930 before retirement.
