Description

Bonnyrigg, Midlothian born centre half Jock Ramage played for Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic before joining Heart of Midlothian in July 1919, for whom he made his Scottish League debut for Hearts against Albion Rovers in October 1919 and made 165 appearances for The Jambos over the next seven years, scoring 7 times, 5 of which came from the penalty spot. Described at the time as “A big hindrance to all opposing centres but an equally big help to his own forwards”, he made his last appearance playing at full back in a 3-1 victory over Greenock Morton at Cappielow in September 1926, and he received a benefit when Hearts played Preston North End the same month before a transfer to Third Division (South) club Coventry City, for whom he made his Football League debut at Norwich City in November.

He struggled to find a regular place in Coventry’s first eleven, scoring 3 goals in 15 matches before a move to Luton Town in January 1928. He played 9 matches for The Hatters before the end of the season before returning to Hearts, but he didn’t play again for their first team and joined Ross County in 1931, finishing his career at Chirnside United who he joined in 1934.
