Description

Seaham Harbour, County Durham born outside right George Richardson started playing football with local junior clubs Seaham Rising Star in 1910, Seaham Young Albion in 1911, Seaham Harbour in 1912 and Seaham Colliery in 1913 before joining Second Division club Huddersfield Town in 1914, making his Football League debut at Nottingham Forest in January 1915, playing 12 matches before peacetime football was suspended due to the First World War.

With the War over, he resumed at Leeds Road in 1919 and missed only 8 matches in their 1919-20 campaign, playing in the 1920 FA Cup Final where Huddersfield lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge. Despite being less regular in their League side in 1921-22, he played in 8 cup ties as Huddersfield Town again reached the FA Cup Final, when this time they were victorious, beating Preston North End 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Richardson also played as they beat League Champions Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Charity Shield match at Old Trafford two weeks later.

Having lost his place in September 1923, Terriers manager Herbert Chapman sold him to Second Division club Hull City in December 1923 after 9 goals in 132 appearances for Huddersfield Town, where he never established himself as a regular first teamer, scoring twice in 46 appearances over the next two and a half years. After an unsuccessful trial with Bradford City in 1926, he played 3 matches for Hartlepools United in the late summer of 1927 before joining non league Lancaster Town in 1928, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
