Description

Lydgate, Todmorden, Lancashire born left back Clem Rigg played for Todmorden in 1914 and during the First World War played two wartime league matches as a guest for Liverpool, one each in 1916-17 and 1917-18 before joining Portsmouth Rovers after the War had ended in 1919, from where he signed for newly elected Third Division (North) club Nelson in June 1920, making his Football League debut at Accrington Stanley in October 1921.

He won the Third Division (North) Championship in 1922-23 with Nelson playing 37 times in the campaign and again missed only five matches as they were immediately relegated from the Second Division the following season. A regular for seven seasons, eventually losing his regular place in August 1928, he scored 4 penalties for Nelson, all during 1924-25, in 266 appearances for The Admirals through to May 1929, after which he finished his football career.
