Dundee born left half Arthur Robertson began his senior football career with Aberdeen East End from where he joined Aberdeen in 1912 and first played for them in an Inter-City League match with Hibernian in October that year, although he didn’t make his Scottish League debut until 1913-14. Called up for military service during the First World War in April 1915, the 1916-17 season proved the busiest of his Pittodrie career as he made 26 appearances, however due to his War service he then didn’t return to the first eleven until after the conflict’s resolution in 1919.
In April 1921, Robertson was awarded a benefit match against an English Select XI and he continued to play for Aberdeen until May 1923 by when he had scored 7 goals in 104 appearances, when like many professionals of the time he went to the USA in July 1923 to play in the nascent American Soccer League, where he played for Bethlehem Steel. He played 87 times for Bethlehem through to 1930 and helped them to win the American Cup in 1924, the National Challenge Cup in 1926 and the American Soccer League in 1926-27.
