Description

Birtley, Northumberland born outside left Jack Robson played for Berwick Main in 1921 and Durham County Amateurs in 1922 before having an unsuccessful trial with First Division Burnley in January 1923. He played for Birtley before joining Second Division Hull City in March 1923, for whom he made his Football League debut, and only appearance, at Clapton Orient on Christmas Day 1924. Joining Reading in August 1925, he went straight into their first eleven and missed one game all season, scoring 8 goals, as The Royals won the Third Division (South) Championship.

He then spent two seasons in the Second Division with Reading before he was signed by First Division Derby County in June 1928 after 25 goals in 122 appearances. After a spell in The Rams first team between October 1928 and January 1929, he was mainly a fringe player in his four seasons at The Baseball Ground, scoring 10 goals in 40 appearances before joining Southend United in June 1932, scoring 6 times in 26 appearances during a single season at The Kursaal.

After signing for Chester in August 1933, where he didn’t play a first team game, he joined Rochdale in November and scored 10 goals in 30 appearances over the remainder of the 1933-34 season. He then joined Second Division Oldham Athletic in June 1934 and despite scoring 8 times in 1934-35, he couldn’t prevent them from being relegated and played only a handful of games for them in 1935-36 before joining non league Hull Brewery after 9 goals in 41 appearances for The Latics, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
