Description

Blaydon, County Durham born right half Jack Roscamp played for Wallsend Celtic in 1920 and Wallsend in 1921, from whom he joined First Division club Blackburn Rovers, making his Football League debut against West Bromwich Albion in September 1923. He soon established himself as a regular first teamer. In 1927 he switched to the forward line, playing at centre forward for two seasons, and it was in this position, having scored 4 times in 5 earlier round ties, that he scored twice in the 1928 FA Cup Final, including a goal in the first minute, as Rovers beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 in the Final at Wembley.

Having scored 11 League goals in 1927-28 he scored a further 16 goals in Blackburn’s 1928-29 campaign, but returned to the half back line from 1929 where he played for a further three seasons. However having lost his regular place in 1931 he joined Second Division club Bradford City in April 1932 after 44 goals in 260 appearances for the Ewood Park club. He was in general a fringe player at Valley Parade, making 27 appearances for The Bantams over the next two years before joining non league Shrewsbury Town in the 1934 close season as their player manager, spending a season with them before retiring from professional football.

NB in the image he is shown with Blackburn Rovers team mates Bill Imrie, Jack Bruton and Jock Crawford.
