Description

Darvel, Ayrshire born wing half Sammy Ross began his career in 1933 with Kilmarnock, making over 150 Scottish League appearances, the highlight of his six years at Rugby Park being part of their 1938 Scottish Cup Final team, although he had to settle for a runners-up medal as they lost to East Fife in a replay. In the close season of 1939, Ross joined Glasgow Rangers, and then played 4 times for Rangers in 1939-40 wartime leagues after the season was abandoned due to the outbreak of the Second World War. He then joined Falkirk and also played for Dumbarton as a wartime guest, before joining Motherwell in 1942, with whom he was still playing after the Second World War ended. He joined Dundee United in 1946, scoring twice in 29 appearances before finishing his career with a spell at Greenock Morton.
