Birmingham born centre forward Edgar Saunders began his football career with Birmingham Tramways after the First World War, and joined Third Division (South) club Brighton & Hove Albion in the 1922 close season, making his Football League debut in their first match of the season, a 0-0 draw with Norwich City at The Goldstone Ground. He retained his place for their second match but then lost his place, and featured only once more when recalled to the team for an FA Cup defeat to eventual finalists West Ham United in February 1923. Saunders was released by Brighton after the season end and joined Southern League club Pontypridd, playing a season in South Wales before a move to Peterborough & Fletton United in 1924, his last recorded club.
