Clapton, London born wing half Bill Seddon began his football career with Villa Athletic in 1921 and spent 1923-24 as an amateur on the books of Gillingham without making a first team appearance. He joined First Division Arsenal in in December 1924, making his Football League debut at Sunderland in February 1926. Largely a fringe player at Arsenal, he was captain of the London Combination team that won the Championship for five consecutive seasons where he went on to make over 200 appearances for the reserves. He made 76 first team appearances during his eight-year spell with the club of which 48 came in the 1929-30 and 1930-31 seasons, in the latter he won a League Championship medal playing 18 times in the League campaign and playing in their Charity Shield victory over Sheffield Wednesday in October 1930.
He eventually departed for Grimsby Town for £2,500 in March 1932 scoring once in 20 appearances for The Mariners, before joining Luton Town in 1933, where he never made a first team appearance. He became a trainer at Notts County in 1934 before taking up a position at Romford as a trainer-coach four years later.
