Percy Skilton was born in Harrow, Middlesex in 1883 but relatively little is known of him. Apparently he was a railway clerk and has been described as a first class amateur player. He scored on his Queen’s Park Rangers debut on 30th April 1904 against Millwall and was part of QPR’s 1907-08 Southern League Championship winning team. He went on to make 64 appearances for Rangers, which included playing in the two FA Charity Shield matches against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, the only time the FA Charity Shield has ever gone to a replay. Indeed it was his pass that set up Frank Cannon for the opening goal in the first match, held on 27th April 1908. The replay, which United won 4-0, was also held at Stamford Bridge on 29th August in front of some 50,000 spectators. Skilton scored 22 goals during his five-year spell with the Rangers. His final match was at Clapton Orient on 26th April 1909.
His younger brother Arthur Skilton made 15 appearances for Southern League club Watford between 1908 and 1910.
