Description

Burnley born winger Albert Smith started his football career with Healey Wood and Albion Swifts in 1902 before joining hometown club Burnley, then in the Second Division, in 1905, making his Football League debut that September against Chesterfield Town and scoring in a 1-1 draw. In November 1908 he transferred to Bradford Park Avenue after 21 goals in 107 appearances for The Clarets, scoring 12 times in 56 appearances over the next 18 months before joining Rochdale in the summer of 1910. He played for ‘Dale until the First World War interrupted the domestic football programme, and after the War’s end he joined Second Division Grimsby Town in May 1919, where he scored 19 goals in 98 appearances over the next 3 seasons before rejoining (by now in the Football League) Rochdale in July 1923, making 13 League appearances for ‘Dale through to December 1924 before retirement.
