One of three brothers, the others Bobby and Alex Steel, all of whom played for Tottenham Hotspur in the same team on 29th January 1910 in a 0-0 draw at home to Bradford City (perhaps a record for English League football?), Newlmilns, Ayrshire born centre half Danny Steel was the oldest of the Steel brothers and joined Tottenham from Glasgow Rangers in 1906 where he had mostly played in the reserves. He had started at Airdrieonians in 1903 and joined Rangers two years later. A centre half, he was mostly in the reserves in his early days at White Hart Lane but became a regular in Tottenhamâs Southern League side in 1907. He made his Football League debut in the clubâs first League match against Wolves in September 1908. An ever-present in that promotion winning season he maintained his place until the summer of 1912 when he returned to Scotland to play for Third Lanark after 3 goals in 140 Tottenham appearances (not including Southern League matches). He later returned to London and joined Clapton Orient for 1914-15, playing a final 24 games before War brought a halt to his career.
