Jarrow, County Durham born winger Jimmy Stokoe began his football career with junior club Jarrow Croft in 1909 before joining North Eastern League Hartlepools United in 1910. After the First World War he played for Palmer’s of Jarrow in 1919 before signing for newly elected Third Division (South) club Swindon Town in July 1920, where he made his Football League debut at Luton Town in September 1920. He had two seasons on the fringes of the first team, scoring 7 times in 19 appearances. In July 1922 he was signed by Second Division Derby County and scored once in 8 appearances for The Rams during 1922-23.
He then returned to the north east and joined Durham City in June 1923. He spent the next 5 seasons at Holiday Park and was an ever present in 1923-24 and 1925-26 scoring 21 goals in 160 appearances, but when they lost their League status in 1928 he joined non league Spen Black & White in 1928, joining Mickley later the same year where he played until his retirement.
