Description

Netherton, Worcestershire born goalkeeper Jimmy Stringer began his football career with Netherton Rovers in 1900 before joining First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1901, where he was understudy to Tom Baddeley. He made his Football League debut at Notts County in March 1902, making 16 appearances for Wolves over three seasons at Molineux, before a move to local Second Division rivals West Bromwich Albion in 1904.

At Albion he was initially understudy to Fred Cook and Ike Webb, but he made the gloves his own from the start of the 1905-06 season and missed only two games in each of the following two seasons, the second of which saw The Baggies reach the 1907 FA Cup semi final, where they lost 2-1 to Everton at Burnden Park, Bolton. He had a total of six seasons at The Hawthorns, but the emergence of Hubert Pearson in his final three seasons saw him eventually lose the gloves to Pearson in February 1910, and he joined non league Dudley Town in the 1910 close season after 172 appearances for West Bromwich Albion.
