Glasgow born wing half George Tod played for Linthouse in 1899 before travelling south of the border to join First Division Preston North End in the summer of 1900, making his Football League debut at Bolton Wanderers that September. Preston were relegated at the end of his debut season, however he stayed with the club and was an ever present in the 1902-03 campaign before helping Preston to win the Second Division Championship in 1903-04, missing only 3 League games. However back in the top flight he became a fringe player at Deepdale, and stayed a further three seasons before joining Grimsby Town in the summer of 1907 after 4 goals in 140 appearances for The Lilywhites. Unable to get into the Grimsby first eleven, he retired from professional football in 1908.
