Left back or left half Hugh Thom made 28 Scottish League appearances for amateur club Queen’s Park, making his Scottish League debut in a victory over Ayr United in October 1919. He lost his place after 5 matches after suffering a dislocated shoulder in a match with Albion Rovers but returned to The Spiders’ first team in February making a further 11 appearances before the end of the season. A regular in Queen’s Park’s first team from the start of the 1920-21 season, he played in every game until losing his place after a draw with Heart of Midlothian in October 1920, possibly sustaining injury, and he never made a further appearance for them.
