Description

The youngest of 3 footballing brothers, Holytown, Lanarkshire born inside forward Jack Tonner joined Dunfermline Athletic in 1918 before signing for Second Division Clapton Orient in 1919, making his Football League debut at Hull City that October. scoring in a 3-1 defeat. In December 1919 all three brothers first took the field against Nottingham Forest, a feat that equalled the Steel brothers of Tottenham.

His return of 13 goals in 1919-20 made him the club’s top scorer and he continued to play for The O’s until 1926 when, after 39 goals in 154 appearances he signed for Fulham. At Craven Cottage he again top scored with 15 goals in 30 appearances during 1926-27, before joining Crystal Palace in the close season of 1927. He scored 8 goals in 24 appearances in a single season stay at Selhurst Park and joined non league Thames Association in 1928 before retirement.

His brothers Jimmy and Sam both played for Dunfermline and Clapton Orient among others.
