Description

Glasgow born outside left Tom “Tucker” Turner began his football career playing for Commercial Athletic in 1922 and played for St Roch’s in 1923 before joining Scottish League Raith Rovers later the same year. He spent six years at Stark’s Park, before joining First Division Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 1929, making his Football League debut against West Ham United the same August, going on to score twice in 23 appearances in his debut season.

In his seven seasons at Ewood Park he never made more than 27 appearances in a single season (a total he reached twice in 1933-34 and 1935-36) and was generally a player on the fringes of the first team, scoring 24 goals in 115 appearances, of which only two were in FA Cup ties. His 8 goals in 1935-36 saw him as the club’s second highest goalscorer behind Ernie Thompson.

When Blackburn Rovers were relegated in 1936 he was released and returned to Scotland, joining Arbroath in the 1936 close season, before moving to Albion Rovers in 1937, his final known club before his eventual retirement.
