Coundon, County Durham born right half Arthur Tutin began his football career with Shildon in 1924 and played for Newton Aycliffe in 1925, Ferryhill Athletic in 1926, Bishop Auckland in 1927, Consett in 1928, Chilton Colliery Recreation Athletic in 1929 and Spennymoor United in 1930. After trials with Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford Park Avenue he joined Crook Town in 1931 before joining newly elected Third Division (South) club Aldershot in the summer of 1932, making his Football League debut at Queen’s Park Rangers in September the same year, making 12 appearances for The Shots before being bought by First Division Stoke City for £500 in November 1933.
He played for Stoke throughout the rest of the 1930’s until the outbreak of the Second World War forced the abandonment of peacetime football, and although he had lost his regular place to Jock Kirton at the beginning of the 1938-39 season, he missed very few games during the next five seasons after his debut and was an ever present in 1935-36 as Stoke finished 4th in the League Championship. He scored 3 goals in 199 appearances for The Potters, making his last appearance at Middlesbrough in September 1939, retiring during the Second World War.
