Goole, Yorkshire born right back Ted Vaux began his football career with Thorne Colliery in 1932 and joined Goole Town in 1933, from where he was signed by Doncaster Rovers in 1934, spending two seasons on their books without making a first team appearance. He moved to Third Division (North) club Mansfield Town in the 1936 close season and made his debut against Port Vale in a Third Division Cup match in November 1936, his Football League debut coming the following month at Stockport County, from when on he was a regular in The Stags’ first team until the end of the 1936-37 season, making 27 appearances over the campaign.
However he made only 3 more appearances for them in 1937-38 before being signed by First Division club Chelsea, where he spent 1938-39 as a reserve team player without making a first team appearance. He then moved to Peterborough United in the summer of 1939, but his career was effectively finished by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939.
During the War, he played for Chelsea in wartime league matches, sometimes incorrectly listed under the name Vause. He anlso played for Glentoran when stationed there. After the War he joined Gainsborough Trinity, where he was club captain, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
