Ballieston, Glasgow born half back James Walls was nicknamed “‘Fister”, and made his Scottish League debut for Glasgow Rangers against Falkirk in August 1918. He made 106 Scottish League and Cup appearances for the club during a six-year spell between 1918 and 1924, scoring 4 goals for them, during which time Rangers won the Scottish League Championship four times, scoring four goals.
However he missed out on both Rangers’ shock Scottish Cup Final defeats in 1921 and 1922 after he suffered injury in December 1920, up to when he had been a regular in the first eleven for three seasons, Walls only managed two more first team appearances for Rangers in matches against Third Lanark and Raith Rovers in February and December 1923. Eventually forced to retire due to his injury, Walls had testimonial match at Ibrox on 7th April 1925 against FA Cup winners Newcastle United which Rangers won 1-0.
