Description

Wolverhampton born left back Samuel Ward began his football career with Springfield in 1905 before joining Second Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1906, making his Football League debut against Gainsborough Trinity the same September. In his first season at Molineux he was a regular in their first eleven, scoring his only career goal in a 4-1 reverse at Burton United in March 1907, and making 30 appearances. However he made only 14 appearances in their 1907-08 campaign, losing his place to Ted Collins, and didn’t feature in Wolves’ 1908 FA Cup run which saw them shock Newcastle United in the Final.

Ward’s role at Wolves became an increasingly fringe one, and he made only three appearances in his final two seasons at the club, before leaving to join non league Wednesbury Old Athletic in 1910 after 47 appearances. He then played for Dudley Town in 1911, Brierley Hill Alliance in 1912 before joining Worcester City in 1913, where he played until retirement.
