Cambois, Northumberland born winger Bill Watson began his football career with Bolckow’s United in 1920 and played for Seaton Delaval in 1921 and Blyth Spartans in 1922 before joining Third Division (North) Ashington in August 1923, making his Football League debut at Wrexham the same month. He was an ever present in his debut season, as he was in 1925-26, and over five seasons at Portland Park he missed very few games, scoring 38 goals in 212 appearances before joining Carlisle United in June 1928.
He was similarly consistent for The Cumbrians, and added goals to his game, being ever present in 1930-31 and reaching double figures for the first time in his career with 13 goals, then scoring 17 goals in their 1931-32 campaign, a total which included two hat-tricks against Doncaster Rovers, the first in a 5-1 home win in September 1932, the second in a 3-3 draw at Belle Vue in January 1932.
He joined Rochdale in August 1932 after 40 goals in 151 appearances for Carlisle United, and scored 12 goals in 40 appearances during their 1932-33 campaign, before joining Accrington Stanley in June 1933, where he managed 3 goals in 27 appearances before finishing his professional career in 1934.
