Description

Woolhampton, Berkshire born wing half Ernie Watts began his football career with local Southern League club Reading in 1896 before joining Notts County in 1898, making his Football League debut against Liverpool that December, making 18 appearances during 1898-99 before returning to Reading the following summer. After 4 years he joined West Ham United, where he was captain for the club’s final season at the Memorial Grounds, scoring twice in 29 appearances during his single season with The Irons.

In 1904 he moved to New Brompton (now Gillingham) where he made 30 appearances during 1904-05, before a move to Grays Athletic in 1905 and a return to Reading later the same year. In 1906 he joined Second Division Clapton Orient where he made two first team appearances either side of New Year 1907, before his return to Reading later in 1907, where he ended his career.
