Calne, Lancashire born left back Albert “Tober” Weston started his football career with hometown junior club Calne Town in 1908 and moved to Swindon Town while they were still a Southern League club in 1913. Before the First World War he struggled to establish himself but after the War he played 37 times in Swindon’s final Southern League season and was The Robins’ left back for most of their inaugural Football League season although he missed the opening game, making his Football League debut in their second match at Southampton at the end of August 1920. Only in his final season of 1928-29 did Swindon finish as low as in 10th and by the time he retired in 1929 he had scored 9 goals (of which 8 came from the penalty spot) in 289 games since they became a Football League club in addition to 68 scoreless Southern League and wartime appearances for Swindon Town beforehand.
