Description

Creech St Michael, Somerset born right back or right half Percy Whitton began his football career with Taunton United prior to the First World War, during which he served in the Army, joining Southern League club Bristol Rovers in 1919 where he played at right half. He moved to Bridgend Town in 1920 and Aberaman Athletic in 1921 from where he was signed by Third Division (South) club Newport County in the 1922 close season, making his Football League debut at centre forward against Southend United that August, scoring his first goal for The Exiles in a defeat at Bristol Rovers two days later. A genuine utility player, he played right half, centre half and right wing for Newport during his debut season before settling in at right back from March 1923, but from January 1924 he played at right half.

He missed only 4 matches in 1923-24 and in three seasons at Somerton Park he scored 6 goals in 81 appearances, before joining Brentford in July 1925. Again proving his worth as a utility player, he scored 7 goals in 27 appearances for The Bees, playing right back, centre half, outside right, inside right and centre forward,  but he only had a single season at Griffin Park before leaving the club, and the rest of his career is uncertain.
