Farnworth, Lancashire born outside left Harry Williams began his football career with Walkden St Mary’s in 1898 and played for Turton in 1899 before spending 1900-01 at Bury without making their first eleven. He signed for First Division Bolton Wanderers in 1901, making his debut at Liverpool that October, scoring 7 goals in 18 games, all but one of those in his debut season. He joined Burnley in the summer of 1903, scoring 8 goals in 34 appearances for The Clarets during a single season at Turf Moor, before a move to Manchester United in the 1904 close season.
At Old Trafford he scored 6 goals in his debut season as United finished 3rd in the Second Division but made only 12 appearances as United went one better in 1905-06, winning promotion as Second Division runners up. In the top flight he played only once more, playing in a 4-2 against Woolwich Arsenal in November 1907, and having scored 8 goals in 37 appearances for United he joined Leeds City in 1908, but didn’t get into their first eleven during 1908-09.
It is probable he joined Southern League club Ton Pentre, where a very similar looking H Williams is photographed in 1910. Confirmation to follow.
