Beith, Ayshire born right half Peter Wilson played for Beith before joining Glasgow Celtic in May 1923 and made his Scottish League debut in a 1-0 win at Motherwell in February 1924. An exquisite passer of the ball, Wilson was a calm and calculated player who would survey his surroundings before setting up a Celtic attack with another inch perfect pass. To define his talent, it was said once that “Peter Wilson didn’t pass the ball, he stroked it“. He was heralded as a very fine player, and was said to have a “cool style”, “easy-oasy”, and was a “carpet artist”.

Wilson picked up just one Scottish Lleague Championship with Celtic in 1926 but he enjoyed plenty of success in The Scottish Cup with four winners’ medals to his name in 1925. 1927, 1931, and 1933. He made his Scottish international debut in February 1926 in a 4-0 victory over Ireland at Ibrox, and had to wait four years for his second cap, which came on Scotland’s European summer tour in a 2-0 win against France in Colombes in May 1930. He played twice more for Scotland, most notably his final cap being in their 2-1 victory over England at Hampden Park in April 1933 in front of over 136,000 spectators. He also represented The Scottish League on four occasions between March 1926 and September 1933.

Wilson eventually left Celtic in August 1934 for Hibernian after a total of 395 appearances and 15 goals, and he had three years at Easter Road, where he scored twice in 93 appearances. In May 1938 he became player-manager of Dunfermline Athletic for a season, making 13 appearances for the East End Park club and leaving with the onset of the Second World War, and having finished playing, he was later a coach at Kilmarnock and as a scout for Derby County.
