Description

Port Seaton, Northumberland born goalkeeper Willie Wilson began his football career with Musselburgh Bruntonians in 1923 and played for Scottish Third Division club Peebles Rovers in 1924 before heading south of the border to join First Division club Newcastle United in September 1925, making his debut immediately against Blackburn Rovers in place of Bill Bradley and remaining ever present for the rest of the season, and also during Newcastle’s 1926-27 League Championship winning season. Indeed, he was ever present until missing a fixture on 24th March 1928, losing his place to Mick Burns and playing only 14 more times for The Magpies until he joined Second Division club Millwall in June 1929 after 134 appearances, 120 of which were consecutive.

He stayed five seasons at Millwall and was ever present in 1931-32 and 1932-33, but after they were relegated in 1934 he left the club having made 157 appearances, joining East of Scotland League Duns but returned to senior football with Dunfermline Athletic in 1935. He spent a season at East End Park before finishing his career first with a return to Peebles Rovers in 1936 and then at Penicuik Athletic, who he joined in 1937 before his eventual retirement.
