Description

Walsall, Staffordshire born outside left Alan Wood started his football career with Talbot Stead Tube Works in 1918 from where he joined newly elected Third Division club Crystal Palace in 1920, making his Football League debut against Swansea Town that December, scoring 6 goals in 20 League appearances as Palace went on to be crowned the inaugural Third Division Champions.

However opportunities remained limited at Palace and in the summer of 1921 he joined fellow Second Division club Coventry City after 10 goals in 39 appearances, and in his first season he managed 10 goals for Coventry, missing only one match, including a hat-trick against Barnsley in April 1923. However he lost his regular place at Coventry in March 1924, probably through injury, returning for 11 more matches in January 1925, and when they were relegated at the end of the season Wood was released and joined non league club Willenhall after 17 goals in 85 appearances for the Highfield Road club, his last recorded club.
