Description

Lochgelly, Fife born left back Sandy Wood began his football career in American leagues, playing for Gary Soccer Club in 1922, Chicago Bricklayers in 1923, Holley Carburetors of Detroit in 1929 and Brooklyn Wanderers in 1930. He joined First Division Leicester City in 1932 and made his Football League debut against Blackpool in March 1933, playing in their 1934 FA Cup semi final team that lost to Portsmouth at St Andrews. When they were relegated in 1935 he remained with the club, but moved to Nottingham Forest in the 1936 close season after 57 appearances for The Foxes. He only stayed a single season at The City Ground, making 22 appearances, before joining non league Colchester United in 1937, going on to play for Chelmsford City in 1938 before his retirement.
