Description

Centre half Jackie Wright signed for Greenock Morton in 1911 and played for Morton for 13 years. In that time he is known to have scored at least 16 goals and made at least 320 and possibly up to 390 appearances for The Ton. He played as Morton achieved the club’s highest Scottish League placing in 1916-17, finishing as runners-up to champions Glasgow Celtic, and his greatest moment came when Morton won The Scottish Cup Final in 1922, causing a considerable upset by beating Glasgow Rangers 1-0 courtesy of a Jimmy Gourlay goal in front of 75,000 spectators at Hampden Park. This is still the club’s only major honour. He retired in 1924.
